Frequently Asked Questions about Maple Tree Pediatric Therapy
Find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions by parents & guardians about Maple Tree Pediatric Therapy.
Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities, also known as “occupations.” These include sleeping, eating, playing, getting dressed, completing self-care tasks, participating in school routines, and engaging in social experiences.
At Maple Tree Pediatric Therapy, we focus on supporting the underlying skills that impact these daily activities, such as fine motor development, sensory processing, emotional regulation, coordination, and attention. Our goal is to help each child build independence, confidence, and success in their natural environments, at home, school, and in the community.
Children may benefit from occupational therapy services if they are experiencing challenges with daily routines, development, or behavior. Some common signs include:
- Difficulty with handwriting, coloring, or using utensils
- Trouble getting dressed (buttons, zippers, shoes)
- Sensitivity to sounds, textures, clothing, or foods
- Frequent falls, clumsiness, or poor coordination
- Difficulty with attention, transitions, or following directions
- Emotional outbursts or challenges with self-regulation
- Delays in play skills or social interaction
If you’re noticing any of these challenges, an occupational therapy evaluation can help identify your child’s unique needs and provide a clear plan for support. Get started by filling out our client intake forms today.
At Maple Tree Pediatric Therapy, we support children with a wide range of developmental needs, diagnoses, and challenges. Some of the more common diagnoses we see include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, sensory processing differences, developmental delays, fine motor delays, coordination difficulties, and challenges with emotional regulation, feeding, or daily routines.
It’s important to know that a formal diagnosis is not required to begin occupational therapy services. Many children we work with do not yet have a diagnosis, may not qualify for one, or are currently in the process of being evaluated. Families often seek support because they notice their child is having difficulty with everyday activities such as dressing, feeding, handwriting, attention, or managing emotions—and that is enough.
At Maple Tree Pediatric Therapy, OT evaluations are comprehensive, play-based, and tailored to your child. During the evaluation, your child will participate in a variety of activities that allow the therapist to assess skills such as fine motor development, sensory processing, coordination, attention, and daily living skills.
We also include a caregiver interview to better understand your child’s routines, strengths, and areas of concern. When appropriate, we may collaborate with teachers or other providers.
Following the evaluation, you will receive a detailed report and a personalized plan of care with goals designed to support your child’s development across environments.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy sessions at Maple Tree are hands-on, engaging, and play-based. Each session is intentionally designed to target your child’s goals while keeping them motivated and successful.
A session may include:
- Movement activities (swings, obstacle courses, climbing)
- Fine motor tasks (cutting, drawing, building, manipulating objects)
- Sensory-based play
- Social or emotional skill-building activities
- Daily living skill practice (dressing, feeding, routines, recipe following, hygiene activities)
We meet children where they are and use their interests to guide therapy, making each session both meaningful and fun. Experience a day Maple Tree by checking out our social story!
